Contemporaneo di Adam Smith e d’ispirazione liberale, è stato un esponente di spicco del sensismo, ma viene ricordato anche per il suo contributo alla psicologia, alla gnoseologia e alla filosofia della mente. Ritratto in antiporta inciso da Simon Jean François Ravenet, detto Simon François Ravenet il Giovane (Parigi, 18 maggio 1737 – Parma, 16 aprile 1821), è stato un incisore francese naturalizzato italiano. A contemporary of Adam Smith and of liberal inspiration, he was a leading exponent of sensism, but is also remembered for his contributions to psychology, epistemology and the philosophy of mind.
