Nicolas Boileau o Boileau-Despréaux detto «il legislatore del Parnaso» (Parigi, 1º novembre 1636 – Parigi, 13 marzo 1711) è stato un poeta, scrittore e critico letterario francese. Boileau è il più importante teorico dell’estetica classica del Seicento francese, così da essere chiamato «législateur du Parnasse». Fu il leader del gruppo dei sostenitori della superiorità degli antichi nella querelle degli antichi e dei moderni, polemica letteraria e artistica che agitò l’Académie française alla fine del XVII secolo. Come poeta, Boileau merita la riconoscenza della posterità per aver contribuito a sottolineare il cattivo gusto della letteratura e aver fissato in modo chiaro le leggi e le fonti della vera poesia. Nicolas Boileau or Boileau-Despréaux known as “the legislator of Parnassus” (Paris, November 1, 1636 – Paris, March 13, 1711) was a French poet, writer and literary critic. Boileau is the most important theoretician of classical aesthetics of the French seventeenth century, so as to be called «législateur du Parnasse». He was the leader of the group of supporters of the superiority of the ancients in the quarrel of the ancients and the moderns, literary and artistic controversy that stirred the Académie française at the end of the 17th century. As a poet, Boileau deserves posterity’s gratitude for helping to underline the bad taste of literature and to clearly establish the laws and sources of true poetry. Beautiful copy.
